Review: Poltergeist Jewellery

One of the joys of belonging to the Goth subculture is sharing a community with some truly amazingly talented people. I think about this a lot. Whether it's looking at other people's DIY projects, independent artists, or small businesses, I think being a Goth can bring out the best in creative types. One such talented person contacted me recently, the incredible hand-made jewelry shop Poltergeist Jewellery, asking if I wanted to review a piece from them and I was very happy to say yes.

Poltergeist Jewellery makes lots of designs including rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces in lots of colors. All of the pieces are made individually so no two are exactly alike and I picked out this beautiful black wire wrapped necklace necklace. It took less than ten days to get from the store in the UK to me in the US and arrived in a black and gold organza bag in a padded envelope.

In person the necklace is stunning. The beaded chain supports an intricate wire-wrapped pendant. The central heart bead is free on an axis so it rotates freely (which makes taking photographs tricky, but during wear means that it captures the light beautifully as you move.)

Here you can see the design from the back, which is every bit as pretty as the front.

The necklace closure is a simple hook design. As you can see, the black paint on the wire has rubbed off a bit here which is disappointing but because it's not visible during wear I'm not at all bummed about it. The closure is pretty solid and I haven't had any issues of it coming undone while I'm wearing it.

I love this design, I've been thrilled about it since the day I got it and on Instagram even said facetiously I didn't feel like I was cool enough to wear it. It matches a lot of different outfits but is bold enough to be a statement piece and I find myself reaching for it now when I know I need something pretty that holds its own in a fancy outfit.

Bottom line: this necklace is beautiful and I feel blessed to be in a subculture that supports this kind of artist.
