Halloween is Here! (At Michaels)

If you're located in the United States you're probably aware of Michaels, the craft store chain. I've blogged about it before as a fantastic place to pick up Halloween craft supplies and decor items for year round Goth home design and a great way to decorate Goth school supplies for those of us still at school. Today I went into my local Michaels and found, to my delight, that the Halloween supplies have started to be introduced already! My store doesn't have everything that they usually carry yet but I'm sure they will soon.

There seemed to be the usual offerings from past years. Signs, garlands, decorative bottles, etc. from the decor sections and ribbons, stickers, and the like in the craft aisles. There are always lots of candles and some of them are nice black ones so this might be a good time to stock up.

I didn't pick up anything this trip because I was staying focused on supplies for one project that will feature on this blog soon (yay responsibility!) but I think I will be back for these Mason Jar to-go cups. They have Halloween stickers that say things like 'vampire blood' or 'zombie virus' and there's one with a skull an crossbones decal (they also came in black, orange, and purple if you want something Halloween like without the sticker.)

This year I think I'll be sticking to crafting supplies mostly because I have a few projects coming up and I don't want to buy a lot of decor when I anticipate that I'll be moving a fair bit in the coming year (spoiler alert.)

I also recommend checking the Michaels website to see if they have any coupons before you go, there are usually ones for up to 50% off one item you buy in stores.

What are you planning to pick up this Halloween season?

ETA: I just visited Michaels again and as of August 1st there's even more Halloween stuff out!

  1. I don't live in the US but I think those jar to-go cups could be DIY-ied.. I 'm already plotting on how to make one

    1. I'm sure they could if one needed to but I love that it's sturdy and the decal is waterproof and I don't know that I personally could do such a good job haha. I hope you do get to make your own, though!

  2. I got my eye on the Witch's Brew to-go cup. BTW, I deleted my last comment because of spelling errors. XP

    1. It's really cute! I think I want to go back to get either that one or the black skull one.

  3. I just went today to check out their Halloween goodies. I like the fake books, and was delighted to discover they're actually little boxes, so I might need to pick one up. Joann has some of their fall stuff out now (at least the one near me), and I spotted some awesome string lights that are black fabric roses strung onto purple bulbs.

    2. My local Joann is actually a bit away from me so it's not really practical to travel to but I do want to at least check it out, but those fake book boxes have so many uses! And those string lights are fantastic for decor.

  4. I always like to see what Michaels brings in. I've been disappointed in recent years though. I used to work at a Michaels and was lucky enough to buy some items when Lemax was still making quality miniatures, now they're terribly quality and look like they were painted by five year olds!

August is a great time to start buying Halloween decor from them, because there's a small window where you can get away with using the 50% off coupons. Then they drop everything to 20% and it doesn't get better until the last week.

    1. Great advice! I've been using some pretty decent coupons recently, remind me to use a few more before the sales drop.

  6. I've been waiting for their Halloween stuff to come out. I got a great set of black candles with skulls on them last year that I'm hoping they'll have again. And those boxes look great!

    1. It's always nerve-wracking to see if they come back with items that you loved in previous years, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

  7. Oh, how I envy you! From what I've seen in where I live (small village), only recently we started to have Halloween stuff in Portugal, and it's always tacky and obvious Halloween related, not good stuff to use all year. In the place that I live, only one shop carries Halloween stuff, and not very good. I only stock up in tights, stickers and wigs (I am a fan of Living Dead Dolls, and normally participate in their Halloween contests). But I wish I could find some good stuff. I loved lots of stuff that you showed in the pictures, specially in the 3rd picture.

I'm browsing your blog and loving it! And sorry for my bad English, I hope you can understand my comments anyway :)
