New Restyle Bag & Outfit Post

For this coming year I needed a new school bag (my trusty bat skeleton tote got a rather large hole in the bottom and I lost many pens tragically Moon-Door style) so I thought I'd buy myself a cool new one. I've had my eye on this Cathedral Satchel Bag from Restyle, a popular cheap online Goth retailer, for a while now and when it went on sale I decided to buy it. Here are my first thoughts!

I placed the order on August 26th, it shipped on September 3rd and came on September 10th. The shipping from Poland to the UK was quite quick, which I appreciated, and it came in a nice sturdy cardboard box and wrapped in plastic. It was on sale, so the original price of 34.24€ (or $44.95) came down to 24.39€ (or $32.01) plus shipping. Not bad!

Here's what the bag looks like.

And a close-up of the embroidery (long time readers will already know about my obsession with Gothic architecture):

The handle and tag:

The inside of the bag has a zippered pouch on one side...

...and two pouches on the other. These pouches are a little wonky, but not too bad. You could keep small things that you want easily accessible in here, like a phone, package of gum, etc (the right pouch is pleated to expand, and it doesn't lay like that normally. I just pulled it out so that it'd show up in pictures better.)

Here's the backside of the bag, and a preview of my main gripe with the bag:

But, the bag isn't perfect. The online page says that "Made of solid black faux leather. It's very firm! It will keeps the shape perfectly" which, uh, no. It has the same problem that a lot of soft-leather bags do in that the sides are quite sturdy but the bottoms and sides are loose and hang down below the front and back (as you can see above). I'll try to show you more what I mean:

And here you can see the bottom hanging again in this upside-down shot:

I still like it, but I'm a little disheartened that it does that (especially since the bottom seems perfectly fine in the product photos.) Maybe some sort of insert to straighten out the bottom would help, and I could always DIY one out of cardboard and black fabric... I guess it's a case of good design, but cheap production. For the price I can't complain too much, but it's something I'll keep in mind before ordering from Restyle again.

Anyway, this is the outfit I was wearing when it came in the mail, which I think goes quite nicely with it:

Sweater: Unsure (Safety pins DIY)
Skinny jeans: Forever21
Necklace: Otakon Showroom
Shoes (can't see): Payless.

Have you guys gotten anything new in the mail recently?

  1. I got a gorgeous restyle bag with a cemetery thing on it (similar to yours) but it's got some issues as well; the design is like a separate layer of faux leather and wasn't completely glued on so there were some places I had to touch up because it was falling off. It still doesn't look 100 percent but it's cute.

    1. Ahh, that sucks! I'm sorry yours is that troublesome. :/

  2. Cute! I have seen the bag on Pinterest but your post does a much clearer (and honest) job of showcasing the bag... which I do not need but it's still nice to know. Right before you wrote it, I was thinking DIY with cardboard-- that will totally work... but alas, you know :) Enjoy!

    1. Thank you! I never used to be big on polka dots but they've grown on me since I got these jeans.

    1. I thought so too! Unfortunately my (admittedly rather large and heavy) laptop doesn't fit, but I'm sure it'd fit more reasonably sized laptops quite well.

    1. Yes, I recommend it! I like them because they have cheap stuff but most of it is unique to their store, I haven't seen the designs six billion times. :)

  8. I have an older cemetery gate satchel from them - gorgeous as it is, it's not really meant to hold up to heavy duty school-bag use, so beware of that. I do love their products, however - so cheap!

    1. Yeah, I think I'll need a sturdier bag if I wanted to lug around my laptop but for smaller notebooks it should be fine. Thanks for the heads up!

  9. I bought two shirts from them a few years ago. The print on the one is a little bit off and the other shirt had a tiny hole, but that's nothing I'd really complain about since the designs are so pretty and they are really quite cheap for a shop with stuff like this.
I'm sure the bag will be fine if you put something cardboardy inside :) And I didnt knew until now that the print itself is stitched. I thought it was just a print. Now thats even better!

  11. Regardless of it's faults, it's a very pretty bag. And therein lies my gripe with Restyle - I have bought a couple of things I've not been completely happy with - earrings that kind of looked ok but were really tackily made on closer viewing and thus never worn, and their mechanic moth hair slide - the front of which is beautifully detailed but which fell apart after one use (to be fair, The Gothic Shop.com refunded me the cost immediately). I've been eying up their tees, but decided against it (though that was more a sizing confusion issue than the quality). As you say though, for the price of the goods they are reasonable value.

You asked about recent purchases - I just received a package that made me go SQUEE this morning! I 'won' a black velvet military style jacket on Ebay which is super cute and me to a tee and which is now pending a wash & a button rethink before it goes to Whitby Goth Weekend with me :)

  12. Wow, it's been a LONG time since I've seen a knock off Moitie bag....I guess it was Restyle's turn to do it. Moitie's cathedral print bags are really gorgeous but haven't been made for several years now so they're hard to find. And considering that Goths and Gothic Lolita alike seem to adore these kind of prints, it doesn't surprise me that someone tried to revive it.

Bummer about some of it's flaws though.

  13. Definitely Moi-Meme-Motie inspired! Like Restyle's angels-in-arches print skirt, it's done in MMM style but not copying any of their artwork - something good because MMM's stuff is done in such limited runs and is so expensive, but I like the style, so buying something similar that's not an actual knock-off copy seems like a reasonable option.

I've been thinking of buying one of these bags myself - when I start studies in architectural technology. I figured the cathedral design would be quite fitting. I'm trying to figure out if it's based on a specific actual cathedral, or if it's just from the artist's imagination. The construction flaws are a bit irritating, but I think could be fixed with some scored plastic if I got one. I think it would be handy to cart my notebooks, etc. around.
