Readers, I have to ask, do any of you have seasonal music tastes? I asked my older brother if he did and he looked at me like I'd grown two extra heads (that talked in Biblical Greek and Mandarin Chinese, respectively.) I can't explain why, really, but sometimes when the summer rolls around I find myself with more eclectic, less Goth music tastes. Don't get me wrong, I still love The Cure and the Sisters of Mercy, but I'm more likely to reach for something else. Anyway, today I thought I'd give you guys a taste of my current musical tastes.
Need to Destroy by THC
In Bloom by Nirvana
I Want Your Love by Transvision Vamp
Magic Man by Heart
Bedroom Hymns by Florence and the Machine
Maneater by Blue Eyed Blondes
So, what have you all been listening to lately? And do any of you have "seasonal" music tastes?
Well, these songs are absolutely solid for a goth to listen to. I listen to dubstep and drum and base more, than anything else, I can't even tell the last time I listened to goth or anything close to it...:)
ReplyDeleteI went through a phase of listening to a lot of drum and base last summer, it's really good music for when you want something less mellow. :)
DeleteI have an extremely wide range of music that I like and listen to at various times, in various moods (I was raised on "The Lawrence Welk Show", after all). However, I frequently get the urge to play Halloween and Christmas music during the summer, not quite sure why! Perhaps it's a defense mechanism to counter the effects of The Evil Sun??
ReplyDeleteThat would make sense, I have a few CDs of Medieval christmas hymns that I love to listen to, and Transiberian orchestra is great year-round in my opinion.
DeleteI definitely get into musical moods, sometimes it's just one band I want to listen to for like 2 weeks straight, or other times I'll spend the whole season just listening to one genre. Right now I'm in a 6 month 80's dance obsession and pretty much all I'm listening to is Erasure and the Petshop Boys and Dead Or Alive!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy a lot of different types of music and sometimes it's hard to listen to them all at once, so I just think it's easier to just move to one genre for few months and then move on xD
Oh, I'd forgotten about Erasure! I went on a big kick for them a while ago. I'll go listen to them now, I think...
DeleteI really got into a French band called Collection D'Arnell Andrea after watching Ginger Snaps a month or so back. Andrea are delightfully gothy and are classed as 'neoclassical darkwave', which is friggin' awesome. I listened to them a lot after Ginger Snaps as their stuff reminds me of the opening song with the death slideshow going on.
ReplyDeleteI have a strange and great mix of Goth music and non'Goth music on my iPod. I love Perfume at the moment, a super bubblegum Japanese pop trio from the future as I saw them live last month. I also listen to 90s alternative rock, like Nirvana and anti-folk like Regina Spektor. XD
I'll add Collection D'Arnell Andrea to my to-listen list, it sounds great!
Deletehi! thanks for citing 'I Want Your Love' by Transvision Vamp! I've been searching that but didn't know the title! currently I mostly listen to greek rock bands and I try to find a rock n' roll disco that's open in the summer in my city.. What a pity to have holdays but no place to go out because the best bars are closed, and the owners are on holidays too!
ReplyDeleteMy taste in music is this eclectic all year round x'D I've been listening to a lot of Florence + the Machine and Sisters of Mercy lately ^^
ReplyDeleteMy taste in music is quite eclectic too. I love me some folk and grunge and new wave. Can't go wrong with Iggy pop and David Bowie. I love that song by Florence and the Machine! ...and I have to admit I enjoy dancing around to what ever pop music happens to be on the radio.
ReplyDeleteYou have awesome music taste :)
